Judge Alicia Gerez was born in Brooklyn, New York to Dominican parents. Judge Gerez attended James Madison High School and St. Francis College in Brooklyn. Thereafter, she earned her Juris Doctorate at Hofstra University School of Law graduating in 1996.
Judge Gerez was appointed to the New York State Court of Claims in 2021. She currently serves as an Acting Supreme Court Justice in Bronx County, Supreme Court, Civil Term presiding over a Medical Malpractice Part. Prior to her appointment to the bench, Judge Gerez served as the Principal Court Attorney in Supreme Court, Bronx County for 20 years for Justice Sallie Manzanet-Daniels and Justice Alison Y. Tuitt, respectively. Judge Gerez began her legal career at a personal injury/medical malpractice law firm where she worked for six years. Judge Gerez has been married to Phil Graczyk since 2003, and they are the proud parents of their 16 year old daughter, Grace.
