Hon. Christopher J. Exias

Judge Christopher J. Exias was born in the Bronx, New York to Benjamin and Helen Exias and raised in Stamford, Connecticut. He attended Fairfield College Preparatory School and then Trinity College, earning a bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a minor in Legal Studies. In 2009, he graduated from the University of Connecticut School of Law, where he was a member and Executive Editor of the Connecticut Insurance Law Journal.  

Judge Exias began his career with the Unified Court System in 2004 as a Management Analyst. Upon graduating law school, he began his legal career as an Assistant Law Clerk to two NYS Supreme Court Justices: Hon. Alfred J. Weiner and Hon. Paul I. Marx. He then worked with Hon. Susan Cacace in Westchester County Court as her Senior Court Attorney. From 2015 to late 2022, Chris worked as Principal Law Clerk to Hon. Robert M. Berliner in Rockland County Supreme Court. He is presently a Court Attorney-Referee for the Ninth Judicial District, which encompasses Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Dutchess, and Putnam Counties.

Judge Exias has served as a member of the Rockland County Bar Association Board of Directors since 2016 and co-chair of the Mock Trial Committee since 2017. In 2018, he received the RCBA Liberty Bell Award and the Rockland County Legislature’s Distinguished Service Award for creating a county-wide Mock Trial competition. 

In November 2021, Judge Exias was elected Village Justice for the Village of Spring Valley. He is the first Latino and Asian justice to serve on the bench in one of the most diverse villages in Rockland County.

Judge Exias is an active member of his church, the New York City Church of Christ, Hudson Valley region. Judge Exias and his wife Alejandra Silva-Exias live in Suffern, New York with their two children, Gabriela and Mateo.
