Hon. Karina E. Alomar

Karina E. Alomar, was elected as a Justice of the Supreme Court for the State of New York in November 2020 and is presently presiding in Queens County in the courthouse located in Long Island City, New York. Prior to being elected to the Supreme Court for the State of New York, Justice Alomar served a Judge of the New York City Civil Court for Queens County.  

She was born in Dover, New Jersey to immigrant parents namely Jose E. Alomar, from Ponce Puerto Rico and Cruz E. Plaza from Manabi, Ecuador. In 1995 Judge Alomar received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Florida State University, and thereafter in 1999 received a Juris Doctorate degree from St. John’s University.  

In 2001 Judge Alomar formed Alomar & Associates P.C., a private practice in Queens County, NY where she focused primarily family and criminal cases with great success. She further assisted the community performing done pro bono work, conducting “know your rights seminars”, and mentoring both college and law students.  

Judge Alomar is a past president of the Latino Lawyers Association of Queens County, Vice President of the NYSBA Executive Committee for the 11th Judicial District, former Secretary of the Queens County Bar Association, a former member of the Grievance Committee for the Second Department Appellate Division and former adjunct professor for the paralegal program at La Guardia Community College. She has also been an International Speaker in Ecuador, Peru and Malaysia and for the Consulate General of Ecuador in New York.
