
The Honorable Lissette G. Fernández is the first Hispanic Judge appointed to the bench in the City of Peekskill, 9th Judicial District of the State of New York. She was born in Quito, Ecuador and immigrated to the United States as a child with her parents. She is proud to be an American and honored to say she is living proof of the American Dream. Prior to her appointment, she was a Principal at The Law Office of Lissette G. Fernández, a Criminal and Immigration law firm focusing on crimmigration and humanitarian forms of relief.
Prior to private practice, Judge Fernández served as a Special Assistant Attorney General for the New York State Attorney General, where she successfully tried numerous cases of abuse, neglect and mistreatment of elderly and disabled individuals as well as large-scale frauds perpetuated against New York State.
Judge Fernández began her career as an Assistant District Attorney at the Sex Crimes/Domestic Violence Trial Bureau of the Bronx District Attorney’s Office, where she conducted scores of grand jury presentations, hearings and trials. During her tenure in the Bronx District Attorney’s Office, she developed and implemented comprehensive domestic violence and sexual assault training for attorneys, law enforcement, social service providers, health care professionals and community-based organizations.
Judge Fernández is an Adjunct Professor at Seton Hall University School of Law where she teaches Trial Practice. She is a guest commentator on the Law & Crime Network and frequently speaks on immigration topics at local radio stations and social media.
Judge Fernández regularly holds community forums where she discusses current legal issues affecting the community at large. She has been recognized for her tireless community service by local, state and national organizations.
Most recently, Senator Pete Harckham, presented Judge Fernández with a Senate proclamation, honoring her outstanding achievements.
She holds several leadership positions, she is the Chair of the Westchester County Bar Association’s (WCBA) Immigration Law Committee, Chair of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) New York Chapter’s Ethics Committee and Chair of Peekskill’s Rotary Club’s Strategic Planning Committee.
Judge Fernández received her J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law and her B.A. from Iona College. She is admitted to practice law in New York State and the Federal Courts.
