Judge Frias-Colón currently serves in Kings County Civil Court after serving two years in Manhattan Family Court following her election to the Kings County Civil Court in November of 2017. She received her bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a minor in African Studies from the University of Rochester and her Juris Doctor from Hofstra University School of Law.

Upon graduating law school, Judge Frias-Colón accepted a position as an Assistant District Attorney with the Kings County District Attorney’s Office (KCDA) in 1994. In 1998, she joined the New York City Department of Education’s Office of Legal Services where she was later promoted to Assistant Deputy Counsel to the Chancellor, serving in that capacity until 2009.

In May of 2009, she joined the New York City Law Department’s Family Court Division as the Brooklyn Borough Chief where she supervised legal and support staff, oversaw the juvenile justice and child support practices. She served in this capacity until being elected to the Kings County Civil Court Bench in 2017. Following her successful judicial election, she now serves as a jurist in the Kings County Civil Court. Judge Frias-Colón also worked as an Adjunct Professor at St. John’s University School of Education where she taught a Doctoral course titled Legal Aspects of School Administration.

Judge Frias-Colón lives by the mantra to whom much is given much is required and tries to be the best human being she can who also happens to be a judge. These characteristics have guided her well throughout her legal career. As a judge, she continues to pay it forward by continuing to be active in various organizations. She is currently serving on the Board of the Latino Judges Association (LJA), is a member of the New York City Civil Court Judges Association (NYCCCJA), the Dominican Bar Association (DBA) and the Brooklyn Women’s Bar Association (BWBA) and she is a mentor for the Franklyn H. William (FHW) Commission and the BWBA. She regularly works with college and law students mentoring them as well and Judge Frias-Colón was born in the Dominican Republic. She is one of four siblings, raised by wonderful and proud Dominican parents. She is married to Robert Colón and they are the proud parents of three beautiful children: Lida Nia, Nairobi Makeba and Galen Xavier.
