Hon. Robert Torres

Hon. Robert Torres was born in 1946 in Bronx County. He received his Bachelor of Science from John Jay College of Criminal Justice and took classes at Brooklyn Law School. After passing the bar, he worked as an Associate at the law firm Fotopoulos, Rosenblatt and Green until 1984. In 1981, he was also Associate Counsel for the New York City Department of Transportation. During 1984 to 1995 he clerked for the Honorable Elbert C. Hinkson. In 1986, he worked as a volunteer arbitrator for Small Claims Court in the Bronx.

He began his judicial career in 1995 as an interim judge for the New York City Criminal Court, Bronx County. In 1996, he was appointed to the bench and was elected to a full term the following year. He also served as an Acting Bronx County Family Court Judge in 1999. Beginning in 2014, he served as Administrative Judge for criminal matters in the Twelfth Judicial District. He was re-elected in 2018, and thereafter appointed to the Appellate Term, First Department in November 2010.
