Hon. Raymond Luis Rodriguez

The Hon. Raymond Louis Rodriguez is currently appointed as a Judge of the Criminal Court of the City of New York.  Since December 2019, he has been elevated to the position of  an Acting Justice of the Supreme Court of the State of New York and presently presides in Supreme Court, Kings County, Criminal Term.

He was appointed on January 1, 2013 by the Hon. Michael R. Bloomberg, Mayor of the City of New York, as a Judge of the Civil Court of the City of New York and then subsequently appointed a year later by Mayor Bloomberg as a Judge of the Criminal Court of the City of New York.  He has been reappointed ever since.

Prior to the Bench, he was a solo practitioner for ten years specializing in civil and criminal ligation. Early on in his career, he served as an Assistant District Attorney in the Richmond County District Attorney’s Office under District Attorney William L. Murphy as well as District Attorney Daniel M. Donovan.  Initially, he served in the Criminal Court Bureau and was eventually promoted to the Supreme Court Bureau.

During his time in private practice, he was an Adjunct Professor of Law at New York Law School for five years.  He taught first year law students Legal Writing and Reasoning as well as the Appellate Practice Courses.

He is a graduate of Widener University School of Law, where he graduated with a Juris Doctorate with honors, Cum Laude.  He was recognized as a Widener Scholar, which awarded him a full scholarship.  He attended St. John’s University for his undergraduate studies and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History with honors, Magna Cum Laude. 

He is one of the Founding Members of the Staten Island Hispanic Bar Association as well as the first native Staten Islander of Puerto Rican ancestry to hold public office in the history of Staten Island.
